Greater Long Beach Child Guidance Center
The Center offers 22 programs that are child-centered and
family community oriented. Over 3,200 children from multi-cultural
backgrounds. Over 90% live at or below the poverty line.
In June another location will open, adding 45 therapists
and the new "Cherese Mari Laulhere Play Therapy Room"
which will include training equipment such as a two-way
mirror and wireless monitors/receivers, as well as play
therapy supplies and much more.

Cherese continues to support this wonderful program for

Camp
Del Corazon
Camp Del Corazon is a free nonprofit organization that runs
two 5-day resident camps per year for children with heart
disease. The only camp in the western United States to address
the specific needs of these children, ages 7-17. The campsite
is set in the beautiful, natural surroundings of Catalina
Island. Though Cherese had only gone to Catalina Island
one time at around age 10, it was a fun adventure of riding
bikes, hiking and horse back riding she never forgot.

Cherese continues to supply physical therapy toys for the

Olive
Crest Adoption Program
Olive Crest's Adoption Program focuses its efforts on finding
homes for special needs children and youth - those having
a history of trauma, such as abuse, abandonment, and or
neglect. Olive Crest projects to finalize 30 adoptions in
the year 2000 and 150 total by the year 2005.
UCLA/PAMS Cardiovascular Exchange Program
Inspired by the memory of his father, UCLA Pediatric cardiologist
Dr. Juan Alejos is dedicated to providing advanced medical
care to children with heart disease in Lima, Peru. Since
1995 UCLA physicians have volunteered their extensive experience
providing treatment for many children. Their primary goal
is to instruct Peruvian medical personnel in the care of
children with complex congenital heart disease at The Instituto
de Salud del Nino children's hospital in Peru.
UCLA PAC Program People-Animal Connection
People-Animal Connection volunteer owner/dog teams bring
their unconditional love and attention to patients who may
be experiencing pain, loneliness or depression. The dogs
help patients with physical therapy and visit pediatrics,
adult, adolescent, geriatric and intensive care units. Patients
experience increased levels of awareness, improved expressions
of speech, an ability to perform new levels of activity
and a happier state of mind that promotes healing. Founder
and Director, Kathie Cole, RN,MN,CCRN started this wonderful
pet therapy program in 1994 at the UCLA Medical Center.
